Signed up for web hosting with DreamHost today. Spent the better part of last night and the morning mulling over the options for web hosting. It came down to 4 choices: Blue Host, Host Monster, Go Daddy, and DreamHost. They all offer lots of disk space and bandwidth as well as lots of one-click server software installs, free domain registration (1) and reasonable prices. Like were talking for the price of .mac from Apple, you can have the real deal.
In the end it was dream host because I found a 50 dollar off promotional code. This allowed me to go with the month-to-month payment and negate the setup fee at that level. Nobody beats the stuff on offer from Dream Host. But best of all, read their "about us" page. They are cool people. Employee owned. That speaks volumes. It shows too. They offer bandwidth and diskspace bumbs weekly for staying with them. How cool is that, even though they're already pretty darn generous. Their admin control panels work, they allow shell access, et. al. They have cool automated e-mails that tell you the proper info you need and any directions you might need after you run any installations on the server!
they rock
Consequently I spent the time to install and fiddle with Joomla, only to delete it later. I don't need that just yet. Joomla and any CMS system really are a lot of extra stuff to learn. Not now.
by the way kids, I just noticed Blogger 2's tags field on the web based posting system have autocompletion in the form of a pop up menu like any IDE will do for coding. How AJAXy cool is that?!
